Ride Your Bike Through A Traffic-Free Central London This Weekend

Bike through a traffic-free downtown London this weekend

More than 100,000 people are expected this weekend for Prudential RideLondon on London's streets.

The annual cycling festival consists of a number of different cycling-based events, from the flagship London-Surrey 100 - a 100-mile drive from Stratford to the Surrey countryside - to the more manageable FreeCycle. The entries for the former are now closed, but there is still time to sign up for the latter (or simply turn up during the day). It's a family-friendly drive on traffic-free streets in central London.

Road traffic free means of course road closure - you can find out more about road closures and detours on the TfL website.

The festival zones are located in the center of London

The 13 km FreeCycle route [PDF] leads from the bank to the east to Green Park in the west, past sights such as Buckingham Palace and St. Paul's. You can cover the track as long as you like - or only a part of it - and find six festival zones with music, entertainment and bike mechanics on the way.

The event aims to be free of disposable plastics for the first time. Participants are encouraged to bring reusable water bottles that can be replenished on the way to fountains.

It's best to leave the long-distance trips to the experts

Other events taking place during the Prudential RideLondon weekend include the Classic, which features some of the world's best cyclists competing in a 169km race broadcast by BBC Sport, and the Brompton World Championship Final, an eight-lap race. Race at St James's Park Brompton Bike.

Prudential RideLondon will take place from 3 to 4 August 2019. For details see individual events.
